How To Prevent Bed Bugs From Invading Your Bedroom

Bed bugs are nothing to play with. These creepy crawlers will make you want to scream. Not only do they crawl around in your bed, but they literally feast on your flesh while you are asleep. Sounds like a scene from a scary movie. And the sad part is it gets worse.

Once you have bed bugs, getting rid of them can be extremely difficult. However, just like with anything, the best cure is always prevention. And luckily for you, preventing bed bugs is not all that difficult.

Here are 3 ways you can stop bed bugs from invading your bedroom.

Know What To Look For

You can’t prevent something if you don’t know what it looks like. You need to be able to quickly identify bed bugs so you can have them treated immediately.

Bed bugs are very small, about ¼ inch in length. They have a flat body and a reddish brownish color. They also have six legs and an antennae.

They aren’t very big at all which makes it difficult to sometimes spot them. Look along the seams of your mattress, if you notice something that looks like flecks of dirt, that may be a sign you have bed bugs.

Be Vigilant When Traveling

Most people pick up bed bugs while they are away from home. Some of the most vulnerable places are hotels. So if you travel a lot, make sure you are extra careful. Watch where you sit and where you lay.

Always pull back the sheets and check for bed bugs before you go to bed. Try to keep all luggage off the floor. Place them on racks or on countertops. When at the airport, avoid putting your bags on the floor if you can. If that’s not possible, be sure to wipe them off as soon as you can.

When you get home from traveling, double check all of your luggage. Use a flashlight and look through everything. If you find anything, throw the luggage out. Make sure you do your inspection outside.

Keep Your Home Protected

Besides being careful while traveling, there are also some things you should do at home. Every couple of months take the time to inspect every mattress in your home.

When inspecting mattresses please note this includes baby cribs as well as bassinets. If someone sleeps on it, you should inspect it. Also consider investing in an approved mattress encasing. Doing so will help keep the bed bugs out.

Make sure the cover specifically states it will protect against bed bugs. Otherwise bed bugs will be able to get in and get on your mattress.

Taking these steps is a great way to prevent bed bugs from invading your home. However, in some cases, this might not be enough.

If you notice any signs of bed bugs, call pest control Rosenberg immediately. The sooner you treat the problem, the less likely the bed bugs will spread throughout the home.

So don’t wait until it's too late. Call your local pest control company today.
